500 Prostrations for the New Year!

Start the new year right with 500 (actually, 540) prostrations. Wednesday January 1, 10 - 11:30, followed by a light lunch.

Foundations of Zen class

An introduction to Zen, including basic practice forms, major teachings, and the history of Zen. Taught by Zen Master Hae Kwang (Stan Lombardo). In two parts: part 1, Thursday January 30, 7 - 8:30 p.m.; part 2, Thursday February 6, 7 - 8:30 pm. $20 for both classes.

Who’s Who in our Chants

An introduction to the major personages (Buddhas, Boddhisattvas, and one disciple) mentioned in our chants. Saturday April 12, 8:30 - 10 a.m. Taught by Zen Master Bon Hae (Judy Roitman). No fee.

Buddha’s Birthday Ceremony

Sunday April 13, 10:30 a.m., followed by pot-luck lunch.


5-day Retreat

Wednesday January 1, 1:30 p.m., to Sunday January 5, noon. Led by Zen Master Bon Hae (Judy Roitman). Meals are provided.

1-day Retreat

Saturday February 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Led by Zen Master Hae Kwang (Stan Lombardo). Orientation for beginners at 8:30 a.m.

2-day Retreat

Friday March 7, 6:30 p.m, to Sunday March 9, noon. Led by guest teacher Nancy Hedgpeth, JDPSN, co-guiding teacher of Providence Zen Center. Meals are provided.

2-day Retreat

Friday May 23, 6:30 p.m, to Sunday May 25, noon. Led by Zen Master Hae Kwang (Stan Lombardo). Meals are provided.

For one day retreats, unless otherwise noted, please bring a brown bag lunch. For all other retreats, vegetarian meals will be provided. For costs see below. Space is limited, pre-registration is required. E-mail kansaszencenter “at” gmail “dot” com for more information.

To register for a retreat

Registration forms are at the Kansas Zen Center, or online by clicking mail-in registration form. Please print the form, fill it out, include your check and mail to KZC. Please register at least two days before the retreat. It helps us plan seating, housing (for those who stay in the Zen center), and meals.

Retreat fees

Retreats vary in price depending on the length of the retreat and whether meals are provided by the Zen center. Please email with any questions.

If meals are provided, the cost per day is $50.

If meals are not provided, the cost is $25 per day.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Scholarships or work exchanges can be arranged with the Guiding Teacher. If you cannot sit an entire retreat as scheduled, please talk to the retreat teacher to make arrangements. For more information, email us.
