Kido! (chanting retreat)

April 29, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm CDT

Saturday April 29 1:30 p.m. we’ll be at Lawrence’s Unitarian-Universalist (UU) church for a kido, a.k.a. chanting retreat. Kido means energy (ki) way (do) and everyone gets a percussion instrument — bring your own or use one of the Zen center’s — which is why the Zen Center can’t do a kido in our quiet residential neighborhood. As a special bonus, the kido will open with drumming and dancing by longtime member Ed Canda, inspired by the Korean shamanistic tradition. Ed studied this form, called nongak, with a master Korean percussionist. And yes there will be free childcare onsite — email us with your child(ren)’s name(s) and age(s). The kids may even join us for a little bit. $15 for adults, contact us if you need the fee waived or modified. In-person only, because no microphone or audio speaker could survive a kido. Registration below.

The UU is at 1263 N 1100 Rd, Lawrence, KS 66047. From Lawrence, head south on Iowa Street (U.S. 59) and west on county road N. 1100, the second right past highway 10. If you’re coming into Lawrence on highway 10, take the US 59 exit, go south, and take the second right.
