The Sandokai

$15.00Saturday March 30, 10:30 a.m. With Zen Master Bon Hae (Judy Roitman). The Sandokai is a seminal work in the Caodong (Soto) school, brief but profound. It is chapter 5 in Zen Sourcebook, or you can find it online. The Sourcebook uses the official translation of the American Soto school; the cleanest online source (i.e., without commentary) is here (by Nelson Foster). We’re just asking you to read the (very short) text in either form. But if you’re feeling ambitious, Shunryu Suzuki’s book Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness is a wonderful commentary, and there is a plethora of online translations, commentaries, podcasts, etc. $15. Publicly available class readings will be announced in the class description. Other notes will be sent to participants before the class.
Retreat schedules and information will be sent to participants the day before the retreat.
